Bodie & 37 Chevy (41 A)
39 129 $39.00 - $129.00
Gold was discovered here in 1859 by several prospectors, one named Bodey, who died in a blizzard as he tried to bring in mining supplies the following year. The town reached its peak production in the 1880s with a population around 10,000. Bodie had 65 bars and a substantial Red Light district while $34 million in gold were removed. Bodie had a reputation as a very rough town with many shootouts, saloon brawls, and stagecoach holdups. Today several hundred old wooden buildings still stand and are protected by a full time ranger. Fabulous photo opportunities exist.
