This giant iceberg had recently calved from a glacier along the Alsek River which we were rafting. I was in my kayak paddling among the bergs when spotted this colorful berg with the green mountains behind it. The rich blues and greens are because the berg had been under of tons of ice above it compressing the air trapped inside. The compressed air refracted the light to give off the wonderful colors. Many bergs which calved from ice near the surface of the glacier will appear nearly white.
