51A Yosemite Black Bear portrait
This young black bear approached me as I rested on The Panoramic Trail with my tour group. Young bears are often curious about humans and in this case, it just casually walked right up to our group. It showed no fear or aggression, just curiosity. It stopped just a few feet from where I stood and posed for a few frames. I used my normal lens for the shot with a little flash fill. Then it turned and swam across the creek and disappeared.
. Black bears are omnivores and like humans, will eat most anything. In addition to berries, acorns, and roots, one of the most abundant natural foods for these bears are ants that make their homes in downed trees.. That is why you may see a bear walking along a log in their search for food.. They develop bad habits if we are sloppy with our food and soon they can become aggressive. That is why its so important not to feed them. Every year a few of these bears become habituated to human food and must be eliminated. Please be careful with your food.
