This young black bear approached me  as I rested on The Panoramic Trail with my tour group.  Young bears are often curious about humans and in this case, it just casually walked right up to our group.   It showed no fear or aggression, just curiosity.  It stopped just a few feet from where I stood and posed for a few frames.  I used my normal lens for the shot with a little flash fill.   Then it turned and swam across the creek and disappeared.

Black bears are omnivores and like humans, will eat most anything.  In addition to berries, acorns, and roots, one of the  most abundant natural foods for these bears  is ants.  That is why you may see a bear walking along a log in  their search for food..  They develop bad habits if we are sloppy with our food and soon they can become aggressive. That is why its so important not to feed them.    Every year a few of these bears become habituated to human food and must be eliminated.   Please be careful with your food.

What Our Clients Are Saying

"We had a great time on  a two day tour in Yosemite with Ira!  We saw all of the highlights, created some memorable photographs and had a terrific time!  Our 11 year old son was charmed and entertained with scientific challenges and games.  Traveling with a local was the way to go and Ira made our experience memorable, fun and exciting."
