Hoar Frost on iris
This hoar frost appeared after a winter storm. The following days were quite warm, allowing the air to hold a lot of moisture which it cannot hold as the temperature drops at night. The moisture precipitates out as a fine dew which freezes and coats many plants like this wild iris in long hoar frost needles. I was out before sunrise to capture this frost before the sun melted it. This particular day came after several very cold nights in which the frost needles kept growing.
