Every fall as the temperature drops below freezing, the Aspens on the east side of the Sierra Nevada and elsewhere across the west turn a rich yellow and sometimes golden color as the green chlorophyll pigments die  and leave the other pigments to have their glory for a few days to a few weeks before falling off .   I was delighted to see this sea of yellow Aspens with just an occasional green fir tree.
